An Expat's Life Story: How it Became Her Business

Last month, I sat down with Karlijn Jacobs, Founder and CEO of Expat Valley, a company based in the Netherlands. 

Like Bennett, Expat Valley is dedicated to supporting kids on the move (and their families), and I was eager to share Karlijn’s work and company ethos. We are like-minded companies in that we believe in the importance of supporting the whole family, the employee “ecosystem,” during a relocation, because it's the right thing to do and it also improves the chances of assignment enjoyment and success.

The plan was for me to interview Karlijn for about 10 minutes, but I soon discovered that when you’re speaking with someone as thoughtful and ebullient as she is, conversations take on a life of their own. 

Ours covered a lot of ground, from the excitement of a first assignment to what it’s like to go home again, and, needless to say, we didn’t keep it to 10 minutes.
